A panel of bee experts discuss beekeeping, gardening and the current problems facing bees and other pollinators. Guest speakers include Kelley Edkins, founder of Honey Bee Herbs; Anthony Planakis (Tony Bees), retired NYPD Detective and swarm catcher; Chris Harp, "the Bee Doctor" and co-founder of HoneybeeLives.com; and Meg Paska, beekeeper, farmer and author of "The Rooftop Beekeeper." This event will be moderated by John Nordstrom, Co-Host of WJFF Catskill Radio's weekly Farm and Country show.

Grai St. Clair Rice from Honeybeelives.org will be sharing her wealth of experience and knowledge as a natural beekeeper and gardener on how to develop honeybee and pollinator-friendly gardens.

Grai St. Clair Rice is a co-founder of HoneybeeLives based in the Hudson Valley. HoneybeeLives teaches organic beekeeping with a Biodynamic influence in New Paltz and Brooklyn, and encourages the public to raise their awareness and become proactive for pollinator health. Rice is also a writer/photographer/filmmaker based in her hometown of NYC. She describes herself as a city girl with a country heart. Rice lectures on gardening for honeybees, and co-teaches some of the beekeeping classes. She is working on two different books about honeybees and beekeeping.

El espíritu de la colema (The Spirit of the Beehive)
Experience this masterpiece of Spanish cinema, directed by Víctor Erice in 1973, within a site-specific installation devised by Maison Bergogne and The Gadarene Blind. The 95 minute film will be presented on a loop from 11 A.M. - 5 P.M. throughout the Honey Bee Fest, and we invite guests to enter this curious space with wide-eyed, childlike wonder. 

Selected excerpts from La vie des abeilles (The Life of Bees), a poetic treatise on bees and the human condition, authored in 1901 by expert beekeeper Maurice Maeterlinck will also be on view in both French and English.

A Community Class & Build Your Own Buzz project (All Ages) With Susan Pereira-Mendoza of Chi Hive Studio. A mindful exploration to experiencing the vibrational sound, sound waves, produced by bees wings. We’ll build our own buzzing tool and also use our bodies to create a vibrational tone that can also be used as a tool for healing and focus! This class will involve a fun craft activity and will be accompanied by a mindful movement practice and sit!!

Local beekeeper and President of the Northeast PA Beekepers Associaction Charlie Kinbar will lead a 1-hour "crash course" in beekeeping basics. Charlie is a former NYPD Detective, PA State Beekeeper Inspector and VP of the PA State Beekeepers Association. With over 25 years of experience his knowledge of bees and beekeeping is exceptional so if you are interested in keeping bee this class is not to be missed!


HONEY Harvest Demonstration

Local beekeepers Susie Forzano Norton and Richard Norton of Cackletown Honey in Narrowsburg will demonstrate how honey is harvest from honeycomb. If you ever wondered how beekeepers get honey out of the comb then here's your chance! It's fun and exciting to watch, tasty too.
