A panel of bee experts discuss beekeeping, gardening and the current problems facing bees and other pollinators. Guest speakers for 2017 include Master Beekeeper Frank Licata and Scott McArt, honeybee researcher at Cornell University's Pollinator Network. We'll be announcing additional speakers and the moderator for this event very soon!

MEET THE SPEAKERS

 frank licata

Certified Master Beekeeper and Operations Manager of Mann Lake's Wilkes-Barre location.

Frank is an Eastern Apiculture Society Certified Master Beekeeper, owner of Bramble Ridge Honey Farm and Operations Manager of Mann Lake's Wilkes-Barre location. His incredible knowledge and experience with honeybees is well respected within the beekeeping community. With his hives located in Northeastern Pennsylvania he is familiar with the problems and challenges facing honeybees here in the Upper Delaware Valley as well as the county. Frank regularly lectures about bees and beekeeping, most recently at the 2017 Geneva Bee Conference in Geneva, New York.

Scott mcart

Research Scientist at the McArt Lab at Cornell University's Department of Entomology and Pollinator Network. Scott is also a Glen Spey, NY native!

Dr. McArt is an assistant professor of pollinator health at Cornell University. His research is focused on factors associated with declines of wild and managed bees, particularly stress from pesticides and pathogens/parasites. He is particularly interested in scientific research that can inform conservation and management decisions. He enjoys teaching and interacting with growers, beekeepers and the public. McArt serves as science advisor to the NYS Apiary Industry Advisory Committee, the NYS Pollinator Protection Plan Task Force, and he is research lead for the NYS Beekeeper Tech Team. 

Kim Eierman

Environmental Horticulturist and Founder of EcoBeneficial!

Kim is a certified horticulturist specializing in ecological landscapes and native plants. She founded EcoBeneficial!, a horticulture communications and consulting company, to help change the way in which we think about and manage our landscapes. Kim is an active speaker nationwide on many ecological landscape topics and teaches at New York Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Native Plant Center, Rutgers Home Gardeners School. She speaks regularly about creating “Pollinator Victory Gardens” to win the war against pollinator decline. Kim also provides ecological landscape consulting for municipalities, companies and homeowners.
